Hey everyone (from the other side of the pond). Name is Chris and I am hooked on picking.

I purchased a Southord kit last year and bought the book, "Practical Lock Picking" and it about stopped there... I read a little and tried picking a few master locks and got frustrated that I could not open them, so I basically gave up. A good buddy of mine is a locksmith here in the states and he kept telling me he would help me learn... well that finally happened 2 weeks ago. We went camping and he brought some locks along. He started me off on a 2 pin tumbler which he uses for training, and it was simple... but soon after I was raking a 5 pin schlage deadbolt and I got it. I was hooked!

I ended up giving my Southord kit to a buddy who was stuck in the hospital for over a week and a few padlocks, to keep him from getting too bored. When he told me he lent out his picks to someone that never returned them, I told him he could keep that set. I ordered another kit online and have been going at it pretty strong for the last 2 weeks.

With my new picks, I have been really intrigued by SPP and have opened 4 different masterlock's this way. There is just something about opening a lock by setting each pin individually that is so rewarding. I am sure I will start raking at some point :)

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am lurking and learning. I appreciate all the knowledge here!

Chris

That was a warm welcome, thank you everyone. Yes, I have Solomon’s guide next on my reading list, and I’m looking forward to it! Going to read it this morning actually :)

I find myself taking my picks everywhere with me now and just practicing any free minute I can. I’ve never been much of a gamer, but I have always liked puzzles and problem solving... So I’m really excited to start this new journey. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Thanks again,

Chris
